In this 9 week grading period we have covered prefixes and root words, ABC order, contractions, compound words, sequencing events, rhyming words, guide words in a dictionary, noun - definition, common and proper nouns, collective nouns, nouns as subject of the sentence and verbs in the predicate.  We have worked on informative writing (expository), our journals, and in identifying and developing purpose and audience in our writing.  The focus of the next TCAP writing assessment will be narrative.  This will be at the end of January and beginning of February.

COMMON CORE - new in Tennessee and our school in 3rd grade

The way we study and learn - the way grades look ... is all changing with the new common core.  We are taking NOTES in class when we come to a new topic of study.  Students are responsible for keeping up with the notes and for learning (studying) new material.

We have already studied:  Sentences - Sentence Fragments,  Sentence Types (Declarative, Interrogative, Exclamatory, and Imperative), The steps in the WRITING PROCESS, singular and plural rules, root words, base words, suffixes, long vowels, short vowels, long vowel digraphs, the spelling of the months of the year, the spelling of the days of the week, and the abbreviations for all of those.
