CURRICULUM STANDARDS: OBJECTIVES WE ARE WORKING ON
COMMON CORE - new in Tennessee and our school in 3rd grade
The way we study and learn - the way grades look ... is all changing with the new common core. We are taking NOTES in class when we come to a new topic of study. Students are responsible for keeping up with the notes and for learning (studying) new material.
We will study: Sentences - Sentence Fragments, Sentence Types (Declarative, Interrogative, Exclamatory, and Imperative), The steps in the WRITING PROCESS, singular and plural rules, root words, base words, suffixes, long vowels, short vowels, long vowel digraphs, the spelling of the months of the year, the spelling of the days of the week, and the abbreviations for all of those.
RECOGNIZE AND USE THE EIGHT PARTS OF SPEECH & THEIR CORRECT USAGE IN SENTENCES Spell correctly high-frequency and commonly misspelled words appropriate to grade level. Recognize the correct capitalization and ending punctuation within context. Identify sentence types and sentence endings (punctuation). Select the simple subject and predicate of a sentence. Rearrange and identify words in alphabetical order. Complete a simple graphic organizer to group ideas for writing. Write in journals. Practice writing to a prompt within a specified time. Write legibly in manuscript and basic cursive.
